We are big into education here at Tiago’s, especially when it comes to health and nutrition! There is a lot of misinformation out there on this topic! So we’ve reached out to a couple of our friends in the Wellness World to learn more about how we can live our #bestlives!
What Cailin had to say…
We sat down with Cailin to talk everything “Wellness”. From her work as a Reflexologist and Sports Massage Therapist, to her own personal fitness transformation on the road to becoming a qualified Personal Trainer, here’s what she had to say:
Balance is Key
One of our biggest beliefs at Tiago’s is that “You are What You Eat”! As someone who spends your days on your feet, either at your Massage Rooms or on the gym floor at GetFit Westville, how do you keep your body in peak performance?
“Being on my feet for quite a large portion of the day, along with the other physical demands of being a massage therapist, it is very important to find a balance and to maintain it throughout the day.
I try and drink 2 – 3 litres of water every day, as I find this helps hugely overall. Exercise is definitely a big one, I prefer to do this first thing in the morning – it sets the tone for my day and I find it gives me more energy. I also try and eat something every 2-3 hours to keep energy levels stable as well as fight away cravings! (not all cravings, I’m quite weak with this and love to have something ‘naughty’ during the day – need to work on this)”
With so many fad diets making the rounds and social media influencers pushing miracle pills and detoxes, it can be difficult for the average person to know what truly works to transform your body and what is “just noise”. You recently went through an incredible transformation and are in the best shape of your life! What worked for you?
“I had tried getting into shape and toning up numerous times – on and off for absolute ages and I would always last a couple weeks and then get over it. We are all different and therefore different things appeal to and excite us. The major thing that worked for me was when I joined the Getfit Challenge. It was just such fun and so motivating. Diet is the most important (and the toughest part…) but once you get into it, it gets easier. Planning really makes it a lot easier. I still have a long way to go but I’m thoroughly enjoying the journey.”
Best Foot Forward
You have been a practicing Reflexologist for many years now but Reflexology is still something that a lot of people either don’t know about or don’t understand. What are the health benefits of this treatment?
“Reflexology is such a stunning therapeutic massage! It is performed on the feet. The health benefits are extensive but the most common reasons that people come for reflex is for relaxation and to reduce stress. It does wonders for IBS and other digestive issues and is great for circulation and sleeping problems. It’s a treatment that is great for all round assisting with bringing the body back into balance.”
Does she Smaak It?
As a South Coast Local, you grew up just around the corner from a Tiago’s Open Flame. What are your thoughts on Tiago’s as part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle?
“I’m really loving Tiago’s getting on board with being more conscious about health, it’s very refreshing. Everything in moderation, but Tiagos definitely is the healthier fast food go-to. The food is clean and fresh (and I don’t feel bloated and sluggish afterwards which is a massive bonus haha.) #tiagoswestville?”
A bit about Cailin.
Cailin grew up in Margate, KwaZulu Natal and attended Port Shepstone High School. She studied Hotel Management at Varsity College in Durban and went on to work in the Hotel Industry, but she has always had a passion for health and wellness. After marrying her dream man, she decided to pursue her passion full time. Soul to Sole Wellness opened in June 2016. Cailin specializes in Sports Massage and Reflexology.
In June 2018, Cailin opened her practice at The GetFit Fitness Centre in Westville where she became interested in the fitness industry and decided to add Personal Trainer to her resume as well!
