Is it that time of year again already? July-ing! This month is jam packed with awesome things to do down on the South Coast from Mountain Biking, Trail running, festivals, markets and monument openings we are going to be busy!
Do The South Coast Fever MTB Series
Kicking off the festivities is the much anticipated Sardine Stage of the South Coast Fever MTB Series.
The race takes place in Port Edward, starting and finishing at the Port Edward Holiday Resort.
Our Food Truck will be there serving up some fit fuel for all the cyclists, runners and spectators. Beaver Creek will be warming everyone up with their amazing pop up coffee stand. Craft Beer will be on sale to refresh the crowd once the day gets on its way and parents will be thrilled to know that the legends from Gymbo-Kidz will be manning the kids zone for no cost to you!
Every year this proves to be a great family fun day that draws a big crowd of cycling enthusiasts and locals who are just looking for something to do.
The Scottburgh MTB and Trail Run Weekend takes place on the 20th and 21st and has tons to offer. Our Food Truck will be there for the MTB Races on the 21st.
This year’s Ingeli race has been combined with the Ingeli Country Show to bring you an awesome weekend of cycling, entertainment and the best equipment and horse powered heavy duty toys our country has to offer! Our Food Truck will be there too!
The South Coast Fever MTB Series is an annual Mountain Bike Series that consists of four races: The Sardine Desert Race in Port Edward, The Sappi Scottburgh Beach Race, The Ingeli Forest Race, and The Lake Eland Classic at the Lake Eland Game Reserve.

Do the Portuguese Mariners Food and Wine Festival
Next on the agenda is the annual Portuguese Mariners Food and Wine Festival!
This community driven event is a must do! With genuine Portuguese Cuisine, wine, Dee’s Oysters, stalls, authentic Portuguese Dancers and an epic Treasure Hunt, there is something for everyone!
The iconic Estuary Hotel and Spa are hosting and offer up exquisite views and a superb ambiance.
Year after year, local legend Dave Watson provides a riveting retelling of the tragic Portuguese Galleon Shipwreck, the Sao Joao that lies on the ocean floor just off Port Edward Main Beach. It is the first recorded shipwreck off of the Coast of South Africa!
The Sao Joao was a Portuguese Cargo Vessel carrying over 500 souls and was on its way home to Portugal from India when it ran aground during an epic South Coast storm in 1552. Those who survived the wreckage and made it ashore briefly set up camp in what is widely believed to be what is now known as Tragedy Hill. They then set off on a death defying trek along the South African coastline towards Mozambique. The journey was fraught with danger from wild beasts and local tribes to harsh terrains and unpredictable weather. Only 23 of the original crew and passengers survived.
To commemorate the lives lost and the history of the Sao Joao, a monument has been erected on Port Edward beach. All proceeds from the Portuguese Mariners Festival goes to the maintenance and upkeep of the monument and its surrounds.
The Ramoson Trust is unveiling the newly updated Portuguese Monument on Sunday the 14th of July at 8am. We encourage the community to attend and be a part of this momentous occasion.
Do The Southcity Banana Bash
The Banana Bash gets bigger and better every year! This is Soutcity’s biggest fundraiser of the year and is an awesome fun packed family event.
Run-Cycle-Run the Full Distance race, if you dare, starting with a 5km trail run, followed by a 20km Mountain Bike ride and ending with a 2.5km trail run.
If that sounds a bit too daunting to you, you can half that, or just join in on the 5k fun walk/run.
Even the kids can get in on the action by joining in on the Banana Splits Mini Duathlon for ages 3-8 years. There is a supervised drop and go style kids zone and a festive market taking place on the field… and yup, you guessed it, Tiago’s will be there too!
June Round Up
Our Food Truck was busy in June too, starting with the Suid Natal Winter Sports Day on the 1st.
We had a great time at Polly Shortts in Pietermaritzburg on the 9th at the 2019 Comrades Marathon. A big shout out to all those who ran this year! What an incredibly challenging race!
On the 14th our Head Office celebrated World Blood Donor day by, you guessed it, donating some much needed hemoglobin at our local Shelly Beach Blood Bank.
On the 22nd our Food Truck set up shop at the I <3 BOOBIES Race/Trail Run/Walk at the Burry Stander Bike Park where hundreds of awesome active folks came out in support for Breast Cancer Research.
We ended the month on a super high at the Margate Round Tables first ever Oppi Kus Music Festival at Douglas Mitchell where a lekker time was had by all and tons of money was raised for the Round Tables Charities!
